You will be flying into Cancun (CUN) Airport, then it is about a 1.5h drive to Tulum depending on traffic and mode of transportation. NOTE: Make sure your passport is up to date!
Returning Home
As you may be aware, currently there is a travel requirement of either a negative test within 3 days of departure, or proof of recovery/doctor's note, to return to the US. There are several easy options to receive this:
Many of the hotels in Tulum are offering free testing to their guests, so check with your accommodations for the easiest option. If not, the Cancun airport is offering testing for $14 for a rapid antigen test, providing results within 30-60 minutes. The CDC states a rapid antigen test is allowed. We will also be setting up a block of time at a hotel in Tulum for you to get tested as well. Lastly, here is a list of labs that provide tests starting at $12 for a rapid antigen test.
Hopefully this restriction is not in place by then, but if it is, we got you covered!!
Transportation
—
You have a few options for transportation from the Cancun Airport to Tulum:
1) shuttle 2) rental car 3) taxi 4) bus
Shuttle is great if you do not plan on driving around much and a rental car is great if you plan on exploring the area and/or staying for a little while longer! Just be sure your hotel has parking (hopefully free!) and you request it in advance. See below for the transportation booking options and prices.
*Tip: www.Rome2rio.com is my favorite site when traveling to figure out the best way to get from point A to point B, and where to book!
1) Shuttle
Costs about $30/pp and you can book at Expedia below or directly at SuperShuttle.com
2) Rental Car
I suggest booking through rentalcars.com, kayak.com, or any other similar site. Just be sure your hotel has parking.
3) Taxi / Uber
The cost is $70-80 one way for a cab and slightly less for an Uber.
4) Bus
Bus is the cheapest and longest way - I do not recommend as a shuttle is also quite inexpensive with less stops and much more comfortable. I have never taken the bus but seems like the cost is somewhere between $9-21
about tulum & Hotel info
—
Tulum is a charming and unique place that is super walkable with open air restaurants, bars, shops, beach stops, and bungalows around every corner! It is most ideal to stay next to the venue (Mia Beach Club) as this is the Tulum Beach Zone and the heart of Tulum. See below for our recommendations on things to do, spots to eat, and ideal places to stay at varying price points: all with AC, great reviews, super walkable and overall the best-of!
NOTE: I linked some to Booking.com which shows TOTAL price not price per night. It is one of the cheapest sites I have seen and usually allows free cancellation. **If you create a free account prices are much cheaper.
HINT: Some hotels will show as fully booked on the aggregator sites like booking.com, hotels.com, Expedia, etc. But you can also book directly with the hotel form their website and they usually have more availability on their own site.
If you decide to stay somewhere besides the below, no problem! Nothing is too far, just note it is a one lane road in Tulum so keeping within the parameters on the map below is ideal! Helpful hint: AC is not a given so be sure to check that prior to booking ;)
